Meet the Pastor

 
 
 
 
Pastor John grew up in Frankfort, Indiana and received a BA from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis. John served as Youth Minister at First UMC in Sheridan while attending CTS, 5 ½ years as pastor of Forest and Hillisburg UMC’s in Clinton County, 17 years as University Chaplain at the University of Indianapolis, and eight years as pastor at St. Matthew UMC in Anderson. While in Indianapolis, John completed a two year internship in spiritual direction through the Benedict Inn and has served on the governing council for Spiritual Directors of Central Indiana.
John’s wife, Missi, is a retired teacher. She taught second grade at Hazel Dell Elementary west of Noblesville. They have two grown sons, Josh and Jordan.
John’s passion for service in mission has kept him involved locally and internationally. He has co-lead two mission trips with college students to Sierra Leone to help build Brown Memorial UMC in Kissy and a school with Operation Classroom in Bo.   He has also co-lead Global Village work teams with Habitat for Humanity International building homes in Nicaragua, Peru, Bolivia, and twice in Guatemala.  While serving as University Chaplain he also lead yearly work teams with the Appalachia Service Project and Spring Breaks IN Service. John enjoys canoeing and directed Jr. High and Sr. High United Methodist canoe camps on the Eel River and in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness respectively. John and Missi also enjoy reading, walking, and riding their bicycles.
